My house in La Jolla needed a repair to the drywall in a bathroom after the plumbing vent pipe needed to be replaced and a large portion of the wall behind the toilet was removed by the plumbers to make the repair. J Brown Painting repaired the drywall and repainted the entire bathroom. Excellent work all around with the drywall textured to match the pre-existing texture of the bathroom walls. The painting team all did an excellent job painting my bathroom. The foreman on my job was very honest and reliable. I’d hire JB painting again for my painting job. Small or large they go the extra mile to get your job done with pride of workmanship.* Update *It was not easy to deal with the owner as I had asked if bubbles in the paint due to humidity in a bathroom could be removed after the foreman left the job site. This was not anyone’s fault and an unexpected occurrence. He did agree and the foreman revisited the job. If you use this company make sure the contract has in it a very detailed description of all prep work and if results are not as you expected due to prep or paint, how it will be handled to make sure you get what you pay for. This company exceeded our expectations. I've owned a home since 2009 and I honestly would only invite two companies back into our home. J Brown Painting is one of them. From the beginning, the estimator was very detailed and let us know exactly what to expect throughout the process. They delivered on all fronts.The owner Zach was Grrrrreat! He is a very down to earth guy with a great sense of humor, yet professional at the same time. He understands this business and knows how to keep his clients happy. He stopped by just about every day to make sure that everything was on schedule and done properly. He even threw in a few freebies. Zach and his team did such a great job that our kitchen contractor commented on his work and asked for his card.The crew that was in our house took pride in what they did. They went over the call of duty to ensure the job was done correctly. They basically made the interior of our house that was built in 1949 look new again. We have kids, so you can imagine the holes in the walls, crayon on the doors and trim, etc. They sanded areas that needed sanding to smooth it out. After 12 years our kitchen cabinets needed a change so we hired J Brown Painting working with their team (Erwyn, Carlos, and Zach) to paint using two new colors that gave them a complete refresh. Our experience was very mixed. I would give 5/5 to Justin’s initial communications, the professionalism and kindness of the painters, and the bulk of the actual painting. However, I would give 1/5 to our experience with the new owner (not Justin) resolving our dissatisfaction with a few portions of the job. Because that was our final experience with them, it is hard to look back on our experience and say it was a positive one.As I shared with them: we felt like the bulk of the paint job was really well executed, and most of the house looks great. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed and a bit flummoxed by the company’s lack of scaffolding. They used ladders and rollers to do an 2-story entryway, and a ceiling crack patch looked terrible (it was all done by reaching, when we always assumed someone would be on scaffolding to patch and sand it by hand.) they were also unable to patch another ceiling crack and insisted we had water in the ceiling. We hired someone else yo open ip the ceiling and see what was wrong, and it was bone dry. The other person repaired it with no difficulty. We wanted all work done before we moved into our new home, and J Brown’s inability to patch those cracks meant that we were living with dust and work as the second person finished the job.Perhaps most upsettingly, though, I found the new owner’s aggressive communications about our invoice and our concerns to be unpleasant and unprofessional, and that’s disappointing, as our initial communications with Justin were the complete opposite. The new owner said he had owned it for 3 weeks, and we did not feel like they were entirely transparent about that. Our invoice came with a Zelle payment code that appeared to be the new owner Zach’s personal account (or at least not one in the business’s name). He also called and texted us multiple times daily beginning the day we got it (going into the Thanksgiving holiday), and saying he needed the money to make payroll, that he didn’t have the funds to float payroll, etc. I had not had a chance to review it, communicate my concerns, and make payment yet before receiving a text from Justin saying that they didn’t get paid that pay period because I didn't pay my invoice. As a customer, this all feels like excessive pressure - and his focus shifted entirely from determining if I was happy to finding out when he would be paid. I made a substantial payment on the invoice within about 24-48 hours of this whole barrage of communications beginning (holding back only about 8% or so until we could resolve my concerns about some of the work).I know that changes in ownership can be destabilizing to a business and disrupt its otherwise steady delivery of solid results and pleasant customer service, so hopefully this is a temporary transition period and not a shift in the business model of what initially seemed like a good company that Justin built.

Everything spelled out in the contract (power washing, taping, sealing the base of our concrete slab, using the proper paint types for different surfaces, and even helping us reinstall some shutters) was accomplished exactly as promised with no problems at all. Justin was very unprofessional and discourteous after I complained about the painting job.He said he was stressed and busy, and had another job to start the following day, they tried to rush this job in 2 days and made a mess of of it, it’s not my fault he overbooked his workers.I am very unhappy with this company and he doesn’t have the decency to call/text or come back to our home to see for himself why I am not happy.Follow up:Justin did call me (apparently, he had blocked my # due to a family trip and didn't want to be disturbed, which I think is admirable). However, Justin said they returned on 3 occasions. They did not return 3 times to correct this job. They worked the 3 days as per the contract and Lucas came once to correct. The walls after the correction are my issue with them and you can see from the pictures that they are not up to a company that say they pride themselves on their work.

The only complaint I would have is that some of my plants got damaged, not from paint, but seemingly from the weight of the plastic used to cover them. I don’t think they’re dead or anything, and I’m hoping a good pruning will bring them back to good health. Overall, this company is fantastic, and I would recommend them to anyone!

Justin and his team helped us with painting our baseboards, door frames, and doors throughout the house. From the start Justin was great to work with. He was thorough with explaining the process and was able to fit us in the schedule to meet our tight deadline (our daughter’s birthday first birthday party). He stayed in touch throughout the entire process making sure we understood each next step. Justin’s painting team was wonderful. The painters, Gato, Svytlana, and her daughter were professional, timely, and paid extra attention to detail with the job. They went above and beyond to make sure things were done to our liking. We are very happy with the finished job and are also happy with the reasonable cost compared to other painters we contacted. Great experience from initial estimate to finished job. Larger exterior painting house job . Painters especially wonderful to work with ...skilled ....pleasant ....clean.... worked every day 8 am to 6:30 pm. Every morning Hector would go over any concerns we had and address them Nothing too small. Minor repairs done. Even "extras" like removing stuck on plants and painting a replacement water heater door . Cannot believe how nice house looks!! Planning on using again in future

Everything spelled out in the contract (power washing, taping, sealing the base of our concrete slab, using the proper paint types for different surfaces, and even helping us reinstall some shutters) was accomplished exactly as promised with no problems at all. Justin was very unprofessional and discourteous after I complained about the painting job.He said he was stressed and busy, and had another job to start the following day, they tried to rush this job in 2 days and made a mess of of it, it’s not my fault he overbooked his workers.I am very unhappy with this company and he doesn’t have the decency to call/text or come back to our home to see for himself why I am not happy.Follow up:Justin did call me (apparently, he had blocked my # due to a family trip and didn't want to be disturbed, which I think is admirable). However, Justin said they returned on 3 occasions. They did not return 3 times to correct this job. They worked the 3 days as per the contract and Lucas came once to correct. The walls after the correction are my issue with them and you can see from the pictures that they are not up to a company that say they pride themselves on their work.

Justin and his crew painted the exterior of my house recently. I was impressed with the meticulous prep work they did (stucco repair, facia repair, power washing, sanding some areas, taping etc.). Everyone was professional and very friendly, and they all took care to limit the impact on my cats and dog. I was especially grateful for that. They were also very careful with my plants. J. Brown did an excellent job painting my home. The crew was kind and professional, and they didn’t need my attention very much, so it was easy to work inside while the job was being done. The only complaint I would have is that some of my plants got damaged, not from paint, but seemingly from the weight of the plastic used to cover them. I don’t think they’re dead or anything, and I’m hoping a good pruning will bring them back to good health. Overall, this company is fantastic, and I would recommend them to anyone!
