    What are VOCs?

VOCs are volatile organic compounds that vaporize easily at room temperature and are usually found in the solvents used for paints.

Giving your home a fresh new interior paint can do wonders for it, but the paint you choose for your home’s interior may not always be safe and may contain certain chemicals called VOCs.

These VOCs help the paint dry faster and improve the quality of the coat.

Should I ask professional painters for help?

Painting your home’s interior by yourself isn’t difficult and learning a few tips and tricks can help you with any paint job.

Knowing which paint is the right one for your home’s interior, however, requires a bit of professional knowledge.

Professional painters have access to the best paints available and they can offer you paints with low VOC content, for a safe interior paint job.

Why should I worry about VOCs?

VOCs are harmful and can cause many kinds of health problems when they come into contact with the skin or if they are breathed in.

When the paint dries, it starts to emit these harmful chemicals, like formaldehyde into your home’s indoor air; they can irritate your eyes, skin, nose, and may even cause dizziness.

These VOCs are especially dangerous if you or anyone in your home has asthma as they can be a trigger.

What’s worse is that VOC-containing paints will continue emitting these chemicals into your home for many years, continuously contaminating your indoor air.

How do low VOC paints differ from regular wall paint?

As its name suggests, they have a lower VOC content than regular paint.

Regular paint usually has 50 grams of VOCs per liter. Thanks to its low VOC content, low VOC paints will not emit nearly as much VOCs into the air as regular paint, making it safer to use in a home, especially one with children.

These paints don’t give off a strong odor, like most VOC-containing paints that smell very pungent and could make some people feel sick.

When selecting paint, most people tend to spend a lot of time choosing the best color and sheen, but hardly give any thought to the VOC level marked on the paint container. Most people don’t even know what VOC is.

“Justin has worked on my home, my sister’s, and my next door neighbor’s! We all had a fantastic experience. Best painting company in San Diego”

    • Rebecca B – Pacific Beach, CA

You can stop searching, Justin at J Brown Painting is your go-to guy for anything house painting, window washing, power washing, stucco patching, and even gutter cleaning. We've used him for literally all of these services! At first, we were concerned because he looks so young. But, within 5 minutes of meeting him, we could tell he knew his stuff. We were impressed that he would work 10 hour days and how tansparent he was with his prices, and didn't try to sell us on stuff we didn't actually need. 10/10, would recommend :)

    • Trish M – La Jolla, CA

As promised, we're working with J Brown Painting again to paint the exterior of our house. And couldn't be happier. :) Same nice, professional guy doing an exceptional job! It's hard to find a good painter in San Diego. Justin and his team are everything you'd want in a contractor: timely, friendly, dependable, and affordable. And clean! We worked with him to paint the interior of our old home, plus the kitchen cabinets and recently had him clean the windows of our new home. We plan to use him again to paint the inside and exterior of our new home soon too. Highly recommend!
